Plan the route, the daily hunt, and the recovery together. A camp booking settles where you sleep. It does not settle every tag, access, transport, or meat-handling question.
Put the package in writing
| Ask about | Get a clear answer |
|---|---|
| Tag and WMU | Moose type, season, tag holder, and hunting-area map. |
| Accommodation | Kitchen supplies, bedding, drinking water, heat, and power. |
| Access | Truck, ATV, boat, or aircraft; pickup location and fuel. |
| Guiding | Daily guide, local advice, or self-guided package. |
| Recovery | People, equipment, cooler, processing, and transport charges. |
A phrase such as “boat included” leaves several questions. Which boat, how much fuel, where can it go, and who handles a motor problem? Ask while you can still change the plan.
Drive-in, boat-in, and fly-in trips
Drive-in: get the final road directions from the camp. Ask which portions suit your vehicle and whether bridges, gates, logging work, or seasonal road conditions change the route.
Boat-in: settle the launch, parking, loading, weather plan, and required safety equipment. Ask who meets the party and whether each hunter’s gear fits in the boat.
Fly-in: get the baggage limit per person and the aircraft meeting point. Ask about extra flights, weather delays, communication at the outpost, and the cost of bringing meat out.
Make a daily plan the group can use
Write down the intended route, who is going where, the return time, and the check-in method. Leave that plan with someone who will act if the group is overdue.
Test communication before splitting up. Carry a map and a backup way to find your route. A downloaded map is useful only if the phone still has power and you know which unit and property boundary you are looking at.
Tell the camp about mobility needs before choosing a hunt. Boat transfers, uneven ground, stairs, and the distance from parking to a cabin all matter.
